SOPHOS AI is a Bible-study tool operated by ABC Ministries. This policy explains exactly what the service collects, where that information goes, and what you can ask us to do with it.

1. What we collect

Your questions and the answers given. Conversations are stored so you can return to them. This is the substance of what we hold about you.
A session cookie. If you use the service without an account, a cookie identifies your browser so your chat history persists. It contains a random identifier, not your personal details.
Account details, if you create one. A username, a password (stored only as a cryptographic hash, never in readable form), and an email address if you supply one.
Server logs. Our logs record the text of questions asked, along with timestamps and response times. We use these to diagnose faults and improve answer quality.
A language preference stored in your browser's local storage.

What we do not collect

No advertising or analytics trackers are used on this site. We do not collect payment details, and we do not sell or rent information about you to anyone.

2. Where your questions go

Answering a question requires sending it to specialist service providers we do not control. You should assume that anything you type may be processed by:

An artificial intelligence language provider, which receives your question together with the study material retrieved for it, and composes the answer.
Text-processing and search providers, which receive your question in order to convert it into a searchable form and find relevant study material.
Your browser's dictation service, if you use the microphone button. On most browsers the audio is sent to the browser's provider for transcription. We never receive the audio itself, only the text it produces.
Content delivery networks, which receive your IP address when the page loads, as they do for any website that uses them.

These providers process your questions on our instructions in order to deliver the service. They are not permitted to use your questions for their own purposes. We may change providers from time to time without amending this policy; a current list of the providers we use is available on request at the address in section 9.

Information leaving South Africa

The services above operate outside South Africa, principally in the United States. Using SOPHOS AI necessarily involves transferring your questions across borders for processing. If that is not acceptable to you, please do not use the service.

3. Please do not share sensitive information

This is a study tool, not a confidential counselling service. Do not enter medical details, financial information, identity numbers, or confessional matters you would not want stored and processed by third parties. Conversations are retained on our servers and are not end-to-end encrypted.

4. How long we keep it

Conversations are kept until you delete them or ask us to. Anonymous sessions expire with the session cookie. Server logs are retained for a limited operational period and then rotated.

5. Your rights

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. You may also object to our processing it. You can clear your own conversations at any time using the Clear button, or delete individual chats from the sidebar.

6. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed. Session cookies are marked HttpOnly and Secure so they cannot be read by scripts in your browser. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee against every possible compromise.

7. Children

The service is intended for general use by a congregation. If a child under 18 uses it, we expect that to be with the consent and oversight of a parent or guardian.

8. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
